FCEC educates and engages communities about the dangers of consuming contaminated fish
Through outreach to affected communities, anglers and businesses, FCEC provides education on the dangers of consuming contaminated fish, as well as recommended portioning and preparation guidelines.
Heal the Bay and Cabrillo Marine Aquarium implement FCEC’s Angler Outreach component, educating pier and shoreline anglers in Los Angeles and Orange County on the risks of consuming DDT- and PCB-contaminated white croaker. FCEC is proud to honor pier fishing in California through protecting and educating the anglers themselves!
The Family and Community Outreach program builds local capacity to reduce exposure to contaminants in fish caught off the Los Angeles and Orange County Coasts. FCEC conducts family and community outreach in a variety of ways, including giving presentations at schools, English as a Second Language classes, and health fairs. Outreach is conducted not only by FCEC but by county public health agencies as well.
The purpose of the Commercial Outreach program is to eliminate the sale of the contaminated Do Not Consume fish in ethnic-specific markets in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
